Do good while getting your degree - make a difference in the community and boost your CV!

Volunteering is a great way to make a difference while exploring new directions. For some people volunteering can be a direct route into their ideal career, for others it helps develop new or existing skills. Either way, it will add valuable experience to your CV and it’s a great way to meet new friends and feel part of your local community.

Student Volunteering Week will take place from 7 -13 February and is a great way to give volunteering a go. The Brookes Volunteer Centre are offering

Monday 7 February 12 noon - 1.00pm: Volunteering- how to stand out from the crowd

According to research conducted by the professional service network Deloitte, '82% of hiring managers are more likely to choose a candidate with volunteering experience.'

Join this workshop which will cover Volunteering as work experience, Micro-volunteering, and practical tips on articulating your volunteering experiences to employers.

Tuesday 8 February, 5.30pm - 6.30pm: Why volunteer?

There are so many reasons to volunteer! Join this workshop to hear from students, graduates, staff and alumni about their reasons for volunteering and how it has benefitted them.

Wednesday 9 February: meet two charities on Volunteer Wednesday

Meet SolidariTee at 12 noon - 12.30pm - SolidariTee is an international community of young activists who contribute to making real change for refugees and asylum seekers.

They have a variety of roles available, all of which can be done remotely, and none of their roles require prior experience.

Meet Leonard Cheshire, 12.30pm - 1.00pm - Leonard Cheshire has been supporting disabled people for more than 70 years . Whether you run, bake, volunteer or campaign with Leonard Cheshire — you will be part of a passionate and diverse community!

Thursday 10 February, 12 noon - 1.00pm: Macmillian information session

With World Cancer day on the 4 February, meet Macmillian who are joining to speak about their work and their variety of volunteering opportunities you can get involved with.

Friday 11 February, 12 noon - 1.00pm: Microvolunteer with us!

Join us to explore how volunteering can be done anytime and anywhere. Try some fun volunteering opportunities where you can gain skills and have fun at the same time! We'll be playing games and increasing our general knowledge on Free Rice, taking a look at Missing Maps and spotting animals on Zoological Society of London (ZSL) - Instant wild.
