    The Academic English team at Upgrade help international undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers and staff, particularly those for whom English is an additional language, to develop the Academic English communication skills needed to perform as effectively as possible while at Oxford Brookes.

    We provide credit-bearing modules, tutorials, writing consultations, workshops, and self-study resources.

  • No, we do not offer a proofreading service but you can submit work online for face-to-face or online feedback. We will read and comment on a sample of your work (usually up to 1,000 words) and then advise you on areas that you need to prioritise for development.
    During term time, we offer writing consultations to undergraduate students currently working on their undergraduate dissertation or synoptic.
    Yes, all Oxford Brookes students are able to take a language module including Academic English.
    No, you do not have to pay to take an Academic English module or short course.
    You can submit work online for feedback by enrolling on our self-access Moodle sites (Academic English postgraduate or Academic English undergraduate).
    You can stop by the Upgrade desk in the Forum, usually between 10.00am and 4.00pm, or you can drop in to the Academic English office (INT 2.04) Monday to Thursday, between 12.00 and 12.30pm.
    No, credit bearing modules are available to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, however short non-credit courses are also available. Please stop by the Academic English office or the Upgrade desk in the Forum for more information.
