  • Upgrade works closely with colleagues in other departments to produce events and workshops that help you make the most of your time at university, with development opportunities in study skills, job searching, physical and mental health and much more.

    How to be a student

    Content: How to study effectively is not obvious. This session provides you with a road map for navigating your way through the challenges of university study.

    How to read 10 things at once and reference them properly

    Getting the most from your lectures

    Date of session: Thursday 25th October

    Content: What should you do in a lecture if there’s something you don’t understand? Should you make notes in a lecture or not and what can you do after the event to ensure that the experience was useful? This session will equip you with strategies to ensure that you can make sense of your learning.

    Content: How to think and write critically is one of the biggest challenges of studying at university according to many of our students. This session explores how to do it well, and whilst it may not have all the answers, it will definitely provide some really useful questions.

    The Assignment Writing Process

    Content: How do you write a university assignment and how might the process be different to what you have done before? How might technology help you re-invent your way of working and find your voice? This sessions unravels the mysteries of writing in Higher Education.

    Working effectively in groups at university

    Content: Understand group dynamics better so that you feel more confident and competent in expressing your opinions, listening to others, and/or negotiating decisions on group projects.
