  • Buildings and facilities

You needed a larger, high-spec computer room at Wheatley for specialist teaching in Engineering, Computing and Mathematics.

We now have a 50-seat room located near to the HUB and Library.

You needed more spaces for group working.

The new Clerici building provides a variety of teaching spaces, including a collaborative lecture theatre, ‘sofa-style’ seminar space and tablet chairs.

You needed more social study spaces.

More social study spaces have been created across our Headington and Wheatley campuses, including more table space and inbuilt USB and plug charging.

You wanted more choice for food and drinks on campus.

As part of looking at our broader catering offering, we're looking to add more facilities where you can heat up your lunch and make your own hot drinks. We've put in a water boiler and microwave at Wheatley Campus as a trial.

You wanted more plug sockets on campus.

Almost all social learning furniture in the new Clerici building has access to power sockets, so you can plug in devices while you’re studying.

    IT Services

The wifi service needed to be improved.

We are continually investing in our wifi service. We’ve just completed a major survey of the wifi across the university estate and in 2018 we’ll start a full refresh of the service.

The layout of MOODLE (our web-based virtual learning environment) needed to be simpler and easier to navigate.

We’ve removed clutter from the interface and made it much more student centric.

     You needed more PCs.

We’ve added new PCs to the JHBB library, refectories and classrooms. We’re also investing in desktop screens that you can use your own devices with (watch this space!).

The student homepage and Message of the Day screens needed to be improved.

Both webpages have new layouts with useful services and access to core systems, all in one place.

    Food on campus

Service at Cafe Central needs to be quicker.

We’ve introduced a third service point, Yoyo Jump and Click and Collect to cut down the queues.

The meal deal was too restrictive.

We’ve introduced 'make it a meal' for £1.30, allowing you to upgrade any salad or sandwich to a meal.

You wanted more vegetarian and vegan options on campus.

We’ve turned the Abercrombie Cafe into a vegetarian and vegan cafe.

You wanted better recycling facilities for coffee cups.

We’ve installed ‘Simply Cup’ bins across campuses to help you to recycle your cups. They’re located in every cafe.

You wanted longer opening hours for the Wheatley shop.

We now have a kiosk shop in the HUB, which is open at the same times as the HUB.

    Sports facilities

You’d like to have yoga sessions across all our sites.

We’ve introduced yoga sessions at Wheatley and Marston, alongside those at our Headington and Harcourt Hill sports centres.

You’d like to have a gym at Wheatley.

This is now fully open, next to the refurbished Simon Williams Lounge with TV facilities and table-tennis.

The sports offer should extend to Swindon Campus.

We’ve negotiated a significant discount for Brookes students to access all six Better Leisure Centres in Swindon. And we’re arranging a yoga course at the Brookes Swindon Campus next semester.

Run the BEd induction sports day again.

We ran the BEd induction sports day again (Harcourt Hill).

Education students wanted football, netball and badminton to be introduced at our Harcourt Hill Campus.

We’ve introduced football kickabouts and social netball. We’ll soon be reintroducing badminton too.

Add women's water polo to the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) programme.

We have added women's water polo to the BUCS programme, taking place off site and at our Harcourt Hill Campus.

You wanted some new clubs and activities.

We’ve introduced a range of new activities, including boxing (off site), archery and dancing (Headington Campus).

Please reinstate the table tennis club and form some new amateur sports clubs.

We’ve reinstated the table tennis club and formed amateur sports clubs for boxing, archery, triathlon and touch rugby club (Headington Campus).

You wanted the table tennis table back in the architecture studio.

We’ve put the table tennis table back in the architecture studio.

You wanted taster sessions for women’s cricket and to enter a team into British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS).

We’ve held taster sessions for women's cricket at our Headington Campus and we’re now considering entering a team in BUCS this summer.

You wanted extra social netball sessions on Thursday mornings.

We’ve added extra sessions for social netball at our Headington Campus.
