Courses with specific accommodation

  • Some students on certain courses will require specific types of accommodation. Please check below for information relating to these courses.

If you are studying a full-time course not mentioned below, please return to the how to apply page.

  • The following healthcare courses have different semester dates to other courses:

    • Nursing (Adult) Degree and Diploma
    • Nursing (Children's) Degree (pre-registration only)
    • Nursing (Mental Health) Degree (pre-registration only) and Diploma
    • Midwifery (pre-registration only)

For students on these courses we offer a specific selection of recommended halls with longer contract lengths. This means that if you’re a healthcare student you will be living with other students on your course.

The halls that are put aside for healthcare students can change but usually include:

As with other courses, you will need to await your invitation email from us, and apply online using the Accommodation Portal. Please see the main how to apply page for more details.

If you need to use a car for placements you may prefer to live in shared housing, as it is not permitted to keep or use a car within Oxford city limits if you live in halls. You can apply for shared housing as a group or an individual. Please contact Brookes Lettings on +44 (0) 1865 484660 or lettings@brookes.ac.uk for further information.

You can choose to live in a university-managed shared house with other students on your course. Paramedic Science students usually live in a shared house because these properties have parking, enabling you to bring a car with you to get to your placements.

We have selected properties in suitable areas located around our campuses (Marston, Wheatley, Cowley and Headington). Your contract will be for 46 or 50 weeks and the rent you pay will depend on which house you are allocated. As a guide, the average rent for a shared house is approximately £110 per week, excluding bills.

Once you have been offered a place on the course, you will be advised to email us at lettings@brookes.ac.uk in order to be added to our waiting list.

The process follows a first-come, first-served basis. Once we have enough paramedic students to fill a house we will arrange a viewing, usually in June. The group viewing will allow you to meet the other students who you will be living with, assuming they accept the house offered. Unfortunately, due to the limited accommodation available, if you decline the house we cannot always offer alternative accommodation.

If you are not going to bring a car with you to Oxford, you can choose to apply for university halls of residence instead. It is not possible to keep a car in Oxford if you live in one of our halls.

Both our PGCE and BA Primary Teacher Education courses have different semester dates to other courses. For these courses the following accommodation options are available:

    • BA Primary Teacher Education - you can choose between Harcourt Hill Hall or Westminster Hall. Both contracts are 40 weeks, from arrivals weekend in September until late June.
    • PGCE Primary Education - Westminster Hall. 41 week contract from arrivals weekend in September until late June
    • PGCE Post Compulsory - Westminster Hall. 41 week contract from early September until late June.

You will be living with other students studying education courses.

As with other courses, you will need to await your invitation email from us, and apply online using the Accommodation Portal. Please see the main how to apply page for more details.

Our Art and Design Foundation course has different semester dates to other courses and so we offer extended contract lengths. You will be living in a flat with other students on your course.

The halls available are shown below:

    • Crescent Hall - beginning of September until mid June (41 weeks)
    • Slade Park – beginning of September until early July (44 weeks)

As with other courses, you will need to await your invitation email from us, and apply online using the Accommodation Portal. Please see the main how to apply page for more details.

You may also wish to consider taking a room in Oxford Brookes University shared housing. Please see the Brookes Letting pages for more information.

We will invite you to apply for halls accommodation if you wish to. Whether or not halls accommodation will suit you depends on the location and length of your course, whether you will have placements, and whether you need a car. If you are unsure, feel free to check the practical arrangements with your college and then contact us to discuss your options.

Please consider where you will be based most of the time, and how you will get there. Residents in halls are not permitted to keep a car with them in Oxford.

If you do decide to apply for halls accommodation, you will need to await your invitation email from us, and apply online using the Accommodation Portal. Please see the main how to apply page for more details.

If you would prefer to look into private accommodation options, you are welcome to speak to the Brookes Union Advice Service for support and guidance.

We provide accommodation in Swindon exclusively to Oxford Brookes students to rent. Our houses offer a number of advantages over renting privately or commuting:

    • We take the hassle and uncertainty out of house-hunting
    • Easy access to both the campus and Great Western Hospital by public transport; usually parking is available
    • You will be living with other students
    • We are a responsible landlord and we’ll help out if there are any problems at the house
    • Unlike letting agents, we don’t charge any fees or deposits. All you pay us is your rent
    • You can choose to pay your rent in instalments which coincide with the way you are funded (e.g. synced to student loan payment dates)
    • If you withdraw from university we will cancel your contract without any charges

Properties with rooms available for September 2018:

    Suitability

    • The shared houses are ideal for nursing students based at our Swindon campus.
    • Operating Department Practice (ODP) students may be away on placements for significant parts of the year. Many placement locations are commutable from Swindon, but we’d advise you speak to the faculty about this before booking.
    • Full-time students studying at Swindon are eligible to apply for our halls in Oxford. However, we do not recommend this option because students are not allowed to keep a car in Oxford whilst living in halls and travelling to Swindon via public transport can be time consuming and costly.
