FdEng Motorsports - Performance and Automotive Technology, Banbury and Bicester College, part of Activate Learning
I had greatly enjoyed my time studying Motorsport Engineering at my college prior to joining Oxford Brookes and I knew that was
the career path that I wanted to follow. I decided that I wanted to go into
higher education and after looking into the courses available the Brookes
course was obviously the best choice for me. The course was taught at the
college that I had been studying at which was very accessible to me and was one
of the only courses in the UK to have a dedicated section for composites which
is something that I am very interested in. Before applying for the course I
spoke to tutors from both Brookes and the college and they were all very
supportive and helpful, answering all of the questions that I had about the
course. This ensured that the transition from college to a university course
was as smooth as possible.
When the course started all of the university staff were
very helpful, answering any initial queries that I had regarding anything from
different locations on the campus to finding particular sections that I was looking
for in the library. All of the tutors on the course are exceedingly helpful and
informative during lectures, and as my course is mainly taught in a college it
is very easy to ask for help if you are struggling with anything. They are also
happy to talk to you out of lectures and even give you 1:1 assistance which is
especially useful in topics like maths which can be very confusing at times!
Many of the lecturers have had a lot of experience in the motorsport industry
which is very useful, as it allows them to give you a particular insight into
the topic. They also have a lot of links back to large motorsport companies
which is great when it comes to finding work experience.
Brookes has many excellent facilities that are available to
you as a student - each campus has an extensive library, while the sports
facilities are second to none. My friends and I have also enjoyed the events
that happen regularly around the campus - they are a lot of fun and there is
always a great atmosphere! I regularly use the main study area at the
Headington campus as it is not only a great place to meet up with friends but
is also a superb place to do assignments as there is always a lot of support
available to help you with any problems that you may have.
