Applicant Day Travel Bursary

  • Did you know that you can apply to have your applicant day travel paid for by us for our Applicant Day on Saturday 22 February 2020 and Saturday 28 March 2020? Our Applicant Day Travel Bursary will cover the cost of standard coach or rail travel for eligible students and up to two guests, or refund mileage for car travel.

Who is the Applicant Day Travel Bursary for?

You can apply for the bursary if you meet the following criteria.

    1. You’re a UK student.
    2. You live in an area where progression to university is low. To find out whether this applies to you, please visit  www.officeforstudents.org.uk/data-and-analysis/postcode-search/ Instructions on how to use: Type your postcode in the search box. Check the box marked ‘MSOA (used to calculate POLAR4 and TUNDRA)’ Look at the box on the right hand side of the map under the ‘POLAR4’ measure. If the number here is Quintile 1 or 2, you are eligible for a travel bursary.
    3. You live in an area of higher socio-economic disadvantage. To find out whether this applies to you, please visit http://imd-by-postcode.opendatacommunities.org/ Instructions on how to use: Type your postcode in the search box. Download the data, and look at column F ‘Index of Multiple Deprivation Decile’. If the number listed in the row beneath is a 1, 2, 3, or 4, you are eligible for a travel bursary.
    4. You are a care leaver (you have spent any time in local authority care, for example with foster carers or in a children’s home).
    5. You are an estranged student (you are irreconcilably estranged from both your parents, and you are a UK student who is under 25).
