Minimum entry requirements are one subject at A-level or 6-unit Vocational A-level (or exceptionally two at AS-level or 3-unit Vocational A-level) with three or four at GCSE, or O-level, or National Certificate or Diploma.

In addition, each HND may have particular subject requirements. The full-time course lasts two years, the sandwich course three.

Holders of suitable HNDs are often accepted into the second year of a degree course.
