    Our presentations for year 11-13 students last between 20 and 60 minutes and cover a range of topics, such as:

    Year 11

    • Resilience and Learning techniques

       Four sessions designed to develop the skills needed for independent learning.
    • Post 16 options talk and workshop

      An informative talk discussing the different options available at the end of year 11.

      Two 20 minute revision sessions focused on developing students skills and confidence.

    Year 12/First year of college

    • How to approach EPQ’s

      Informative talk giving students useful advice on how to approach their EPQ and project process. 
      (30 mins)

    Year 12/13 and First/second year of college

    • Introduction to higher education

      Benefits of going to university, courses on offer, and how it differs to school and college. 
      (45 mins)
    • Getting the most out of your UCAS/HE fair

      This talk offers students an insight into what to expect at a UCAS or Higher Education fair and how to get the most out of it. Including top tips and key questions to ask to each Higher Education provider.

    • Alternative progression routes

      Introducing students to the alternative routes into Higher Education, including providing information, advice and guidance on apprenticeship schemes and how they work to help students to make informed decisions.
      (20 mins)
    • Choosing a course and university

      How to narrow down the choices to a manageable number and how university courses differ.
      (30 mins - 1 hour)
    • Why Brookes?

      An insight into what it is like to study at Oxford Brookes University and information about the courses, support services and facilities available to students.

    • Applying to university

      A general overview of how to navigate the UCAS system, usually linked with writing personal statements.
      (20 mins)
    • Writing personal statements

      How to prepare for and write personal statements. Including dos and don'ts, advice on structure and tips from admissions tutors. Can be delivered as a talk or an interactive workshop.

    • Student finance

      Highlights the support available to students from loans, scholarships and bursaries, as well as providing advice on the student finance process.
      (30 mins)
    • Student life

      An insight into student life from the perspective of a current student. Covers topics such as accommodation, social life, societies, sports and studies.
      (30-45 mins)
    • Where to go with a degree

      An exploration of how university equips students for the working world, including routes into academia, graduate-level jobs, graduate schemes, and self employment.
      (30 mins) 
    • Personal statement drop-ins

       Our drop-in sessions give students the opportunity to seek personalised 1:1 advice and guidance on their personal statement from our trained members of staff.
      (10 min appointments)
    • Mock interviews

      This valuable opportunity, gives students the chance to participate in a mock interview, providing them with advice and guidance to develop both their confidence and skills in order for to undertake successful interviews.

    Transition talk

    • Reference writing

      An informative workshop exploring the essential University skill of referencing, giving information, advice and guidance on how to reference sources.
      (30 mins)

    All talks can be adapted and delivered in combination to meet your requirements.

    Our talks are impartial and are designed to help students make the most of their options, although we are happy to talk specifically about Oxford Brookes if you wish. They are particularly useful for year 12 or first year college students considering going on to higher education. We are also happy to give talks to parents and guardians.
