MA in Development and Emergency Practice
After completing a degree in architecture at Brookes, Sari went on to do the MA in Development and Emergency Practice (DEP) in 2008-9. She was therefore perfectly placed for her role in helping to rebuild Haiti following the massive earthquake in January 2010.
This picture is taken from one of our very remote mountain school locations here in Haiti and the children are the direct beneficiaries who are now studying in their new school.
“I came to Haiti to act as Reconstruction Manager for Finn Church Aid's reconstruction programme in Haiti as well as lead the planning for the organisation's global construction strategy. I absolutely love my job, and I work very closely with the local school communities, ministries and partner organisations.
"Without the DEP program I would have never had the skills or the confidence to tackle the jobs I have been doing for the last 4 years.
"We have so far completed two permanent schools, and 11 are on-going - the aim is to construct around 40 schools in the next 3-4 years. The building standard is said to be one of the highest in the whole of Haiti.
"I am still underlining that without the DEP program I would have never had the skills or the confidence to tackle the jobs I have been doing and I am extremely grateful that I had the chance to participate in the program.
"Because of the DEP course I have had the chance to work in India, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Afghanistan and Haiti immediately after my graduation and I have never been unemployed after the graduation. The programme and its staff are globally very well known, and I am very proud to be part of the CENDEP family. My feedback for the DEP program is 100% positive! I hope that many more students will be able to participate on this amazing course in future!”
