Who this event is for

  • Everyone

C216, Clerici Building, Headington Campus

Coordinated by Lorenzo Tripodi – (Tesserae Urban Social research) and Manuela Conti (ogino:knauss).

This workshop  will introduce researchers to the toolset of participative methodologies developed by Tesserae Tesserae is a platform to connect critical multidisciplinary research, education, art, communication and project development in the urban, territorial and social fields. Based in Berlin and a partner in the CoCreation research project, Tesseræ works with local communities, independent and non-for profit organisations, as well as local, national and European institutions.  Exercises in Urban Reconnaissance is a methodology  developed over twenty years of activity by the oginoknauss media collective and produced by Tesserae. It is a toolbox for  disentangling urban complexities. The online device takes the form of a collection of sixty-four different definitions of the word “city”, each based on a diverse aspect or disciplinary approach. The workshop will be structured as follows.

1. The Urban Reconnaissance methodology will be introduced and discussed in the context of doing participatory research  and ‘co-creation’.

2. We will then think how it can be applied in the context of our current research interests, e.g  in identifying  key aspects of the socio-spatial situation of particular neighbourhoods.

3. Finally we will explore the use of one part of the tool kit, the “onion map” technique.
