Posts working in Respiratory Medicine and a local Community Hospital were followed by a move into Palliative Care nursing at Sir Michael Sobell House. Various clinical and research roles led to a twelve month secondment to Oxford Brookes University School of Health and Social Care.

In 1999, Dan took up a full-time Lecturer in Health Care position as part of the original team that established the university's Swindon campus. He is now based at the Marston Road campus in Oxford.

Dan has undertaken further study in the fields of Health Psychology and Professional Education, completing a Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) where his research explored the early developments of professional identity among beginning nursing students.

Dan has previously had experience as Liaison Manager for the BSc(Hons) Nursing programme offered as a collaborative provision in Malaysia. He has chaired the Subject Examination Committee for the Nursing and Midwifery fields, numerous Approval and Validation events across the University, and served as an External Examiner for the University of Salford.
