Areas of expertise
Before working at Brookes, Graham was Director of Academic Planning, Director of Learning and Teaching, Head of Curriculum and Pedagogy, and Head of Secondary ITE at the University of Birmingham. He also served for periods as Head of Department, both in the School of Education and in the School of Government and Society at Birmingham.
Since 1990 Graham has regularly been employed as an external examiner at PGCE, Masters, MPhil, EdD and PhD levels. He has been an end of award rapporteur for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Graham regularly reviews academic articles for a wide range of journals, including the peer reviewed academic journals Educational Review, Geography, Assessment in Education, International Research in Geographical and Environmental Education, Journal of Geography in Higher Education, Teacher Development, Education 3 -13, Professional Geographer, Research in Geographic Education and Annals of the Association of American Geographers. He has also reviewed for the online journals: Sage Online, Humanities (Academia Europaea), Research In Geography Education Online and GeogEd.

Graham has undertaken consultancy work for, among others, the Geographical Association; Institute of Education/University College London; Coursera; SQW; Department for Education and Skills (DfES); Department for Education (DfE); National Centre for the Excellence of Teaching in Mathematics (NCETM); Training and Development Agency (TDA); NHS; Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA); and Pearson.
Graham has organised and given papers at numerous conferences, both domestically and overseas. He has been a keynote speaker, discussant, chair and panel member. These conferences include: IGU-CGE, Geography Teacher Educators’ (GTE) Conferences, Association of American Geographers (AAG), ESRC, BELMAS and BERA.
