Howard Brown graduated from Oxford University with a first class MA in Engineering, Economics and Management. After working for ICI in a variety of roles, he took a change of career path, engaging in social enterprises, focusing on helping young people to achieve their potential. He worked for the UK's Prison Service with young offenders learning vocational skills; for one of the UK's major children's charities, managing a project helping young people who had been ‘in care' make the transition to independent life, and in 1990 he started lecturing. He joined Oxford Brookes University in 1996, where after 12 years as a member of the Business School's leadership team, he returned to teaching and research in Finance, focusing on the psychology of financial decision-making.
He is now the Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics and combines this with teaching Finance.
