After graduating with a degree in History and Law, Joy studied Human Resource management at the London School of Economics and then started her career in Human Resource management with BP. She gained considerable experience developing HR strategies working in a range of different international business contexts. Since working for BP, Joy has undertaken a range of consultancy projects relating to management development, change, HR strategic leadership for both private and public sector clients. Joy lived in Switzerland for four years when her children were young.
In 1997, Joy utilised her business experience as she began her second career as an academic joining Oxford Brookes University in 2005. Within her University and academic career, Joy combines a passionate commitment to teaching and student learning along with research and consultancy interests. Joy also works as a Coach to business leaders and is in the final stages of completing a Masters degree in Coaching & Mentoring. Joy is a Fellow of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and has been a Member of the Organising Committee for the Oxford CIPD Branch for about 5 years. She has also been a School Governor for over 10 years.
Her areas of teaching include all aspects of Human Resource Management particularly Learning and Development , Reward, Organisational behaviour, Organisational development and Cross-cultural / International HRM. She has also taught and is very interested in Enterprise and Innovation.
Joy has gained considerable Programme Management experience within her academic career working as Programme Director for CIPD Programmes and now as Programme Director for MSc Business & Enterprise, MSc HRM and MSc International Management. The MSc HRM has been successfully validated to gain full accreditation against the Professional Body standards of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) which will enable student to gain a joint and professional accreditation from this degree.
