Religion and belief Professor Vickers’ research on religious equality has assisted conceptual understanding and capacity-building nationally and within the European Union, underpinning legal challenges to government equality legislation. She authored (with Professor Edge) a review of equality and human rights law relating to religion or belief for the Equality and Human Rights Commission in 2015. She also authored “Religion and Belief in Employment – The EU Law” a substantial report commissioned by the European Network of Legal Experts in the non-discrimination field for the European Commission. Professor Vickers is the UK country expert for the European Equality Law Network. She has continued to act as a friend of the chair for the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and to be involved in advising the Commission on aspects of their work on religious equality. She gave evidence to the Butler-Sloss Commission on Religion in Public Life, has acted as an advisor to the Equality and Human Rights Commission in its work on religion or belief, and is a regular keynote conference speaker.
