• Why Brookes - Learning through doing
  • Learning through doing

Oxford Brookes courses are designed so you can apply the skills and knowledge you gain in the real world.

Hands-on experiences and teaching are central to the majority of our courses, and there are opportunities that bring together subjects from across the University.

  • Get Published!

Get Published! is one of the ways that students from every department can take their learning beyond the classroom and delve into an area that interests them.

The scheme celebrates student research by giving you the experience of sharing your research with fellow students, academics and the public. You could join students from across the University in showcasing their research with a poster at the Get Published! University Student Research Conference held at Oxford Brookes, discussing your project with visitors and receiving valuable feedback.

This is a rare opportunity at undergraduate level and builds important graduate-level skills such as communication, confidence and building a professional network. You are also supported in submitting your research to present at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research, and two students are chosen annually to present their research to MPs, staff and students from over 20 universities at the Palace of Westminster in London.

  • What our students say about Get Published!

Posters in Parliament was one of the greatest opportunities I have had in my student experience. Being chosen to represent your university is such an amazing experience for any undergraduate researcher. I feel like it gave me so much motivation and made me believe in my abilities, especially considering that this is a nationwide competition.

For me it’s been a good way to gain confidence and immerse myself in my work.

I’m proud of my work because it’s been published!

I was so thrilled that all the hard work and time I had put into writing my research journal had all been worth it! This event will allow me to stand out on my CV and has made me more confident when applying for future university events.

  • Live projects

Departments across the University have live projects and field trips designed to give you the opportunity to take your learning beyond the classroom, put your subject into context in the real world, and build the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s going on - there are lots of opportunities in every subject, so make sure you make the most of them!
