Bar Practice Course (BPC) from University of Law
Overview
Oxford Brookes Law School is permitting the University of Law (ULaw) to deliver specialised, postgraduate legal training courses at Oxford Brookes University. In January 2027, ULaw’s Bar Practice Course (BPC) will be available as a full-time, in-person programme on our Headington campus in Oxford. This course will help you develop the confidence, advocacy, communication and leadership skills needed for a career at the Bar. Through practical, industry-focused learning and teaching from experienced legal academics, you'll build the knowledge and professional skills expected of aspiring barristers.
The BPC is awarded by ULaw and will be delivered by ULaw staff in Oxford Brookes’ classrooms. You will enjoy access to many of our facilities, including a sports centre, library and much more on our vibrant campus. Entry requirements
Specific entry requirements
- Students must possess a 2:1 or above from a Qualifying Law degree (QLD) OR a 2:1 in any undergraduate degree along with a Law Conversion course.
- Applicants with a 2:2 from a non-law degree will require a commendation or distinction from their GDL/MA Law/PgDL/MA Law (Conversion) or MA Law (SQE1) studies.
- Students with a 2.2 with other qualities such as additional higher education qualifications or relevant work experience may also be considered.
- From January 2027 onwards, applicants with a 2:2 from a QLD will be considered, taking into account the overall strength of their application, including academic profile, personal statement, professional experience and other indicators of capability. They will also take an enhanced selection interview.
- Students must comply with the requirements set out by the Bar Standards Board (BSB).
- Applicants meeting the academic eligibility criteria will be required to attend and successfully pass an online Selection Interview.
English language requirements
An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 7.5 with a minimum of 7.5 in each component or equivalent.

Application process
- Applications are made directly to The University of Law.
- International students will have a deadline of 6 weeks prior to the course start date to submit applications, with the last selection event taking place 5 weeks prior to the course start date.
- Home students have a deadline of 4 weeks prior to the course start date to submit applications, with the last selection event taking place 3 weeks prior to the course start date.
- Don't forget - you must be a member of an Inn of Court before you start our BPC. The deadline for applying is at least 12 weeks before you start the course. Information about joining an Inn and the role of the Inns can be found in the Bar Qualification Manual.

Financial support and scholarships
ULaw are offering an Oxford Brookes BPC Deans Award, providing a £1,000 fee reduction to students starting the BPC in January 2027. Eligible students will automatically receive the award.
