Rugby Union

The TEAMBrookes Rugby Union offer at Oxford Brookes is made up of Men's and Women's Teams. Rugby Union is one of our biggest sports and welcomes players of all abilities.

We enter various teams into the Rugby Union British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Leagues. We are very proud of our partnership with Oxford Harlequins RFC as it provides additional playing opportunities for our student athletes as well as access to brilliant facilities and opportunities for students to gain experience in other rugby roles.

Men's Rugby Union Teams

Men's Rugby Union Team

There are 3 Men's Teams who play in various Midlands BUCS Leagues. All teams train and play at Oxford Harlequins RFC. Both the 1st and 2nd teams compete in Tier 2 and historically make a long 'cup run' in pursuit of the Midlands Conference Cup. The Men's programme is lead by rugby legend, Tom Varndell, who joined Oxford Brookes as the Head of Rugby last summer through our partnership with 'Quins'.

Women's Rugby Union Team

Women's Rugby Union Team

There is 1 Women's Team who play in Tier 1 of the Midlands BUCS League. The team trains and plays their home games at Oxford Harlequins RFC. During the 2022/23 season, they celebrated one of their most successful seasons to date, by finishing 3rd in the Midlands Tier 1 League and making it to the Quarter-Finals of the Women's National Trophy. As a result, Fin Kelly, the Women's Head Coach was awarded the Coach of the Year Award at the 2023 TEAMBrookes Sports Awards. Molly Dymmock-Morgan, the Women's Club President for 2021 - 2023 was also award the Sports Personality Award at the 2023 TEAMBrookes Sports Awards
