What is the academic development framework?

The Oxford Brookes academic development framework integrates teacher, research, and leadership development. It is the foundation for the academic, continuous professional development available to Oxford Brookes academic and research staff. Launched in 2016 it has been refreshed to reflect sector wide developments: the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers (2019); the professional standards framework for teaching and supporting learning in he (2023); and Oxford Brookes Leadership Framework (2023). it;

Outlines the knowledge and attributes that underpins transformational academic practice at Oxford Brookes, informed by the Guiding Principles.
Is applicable to all staff on any of the academic career pathways, and in professional service or research roles with research and teaching responsibilities.
Provides a structure for academic continuing professional development at all stages of an academic, research or related career.
Enables self-assessment of strengths and areas for further development.
Encourages the planning of personalised, academic, continuous professional development.
Offers recognition of professional academic practice.

How can the development framework be used?

To underpin conversations about setting individual objectives and academic continuous professional development during PDR meetings.
To define and lead staff development in support of programme or faculty action plans, e.g. NSS action plans or research development planning.
To enable ongoing academic enhancement and development instigated by changes in context, e.g. emerging technologies, policy and strategy.
To furnish academic, research and professional service staff with the knowledge and attributes necessary to secure HE career progression.
