Artists from Oxford Brookes University to feature in exhibition on campus showcasing local talent
Talented artists from Oxford Brookes University will have their creative work put on public display at a contemporary art exhibition.
Oxford Brookes is partnering with Modern Art Oxford to host the exhibition named ‘Adapt Transform’, which will be held at the Glass Tank Gallery at the university’s Headington Campus, as well as at Modern Art Oxford, in the city centre.
Oxford Brookes students Deborah Pill and Ash Goller will have their work on display, as well as School of Arts alumnus Thomas Nicolaou.
The exhibition will run from 16 August to 11 September at the Glass Tank, but will continue at Modern Art Oxford until 18 September. It will also feature the works of other Oxfordshire artists.
The exhibition looks at community experiences of urban design that impact the transformation of places over time, and how the planning of cities affects the way we live.
It has been collaboratively co-created by Modern Art Oxford volunteers.
Oxford Brookes supporting local artists
This year’s exhibition will be the third annual showcasing of talent from local Oxfordshire artists and creatives, with Deborah, Ash and Thomas all having their work on show.
Deborah is an Oxford-based contemporary artist, and her work is self-reflective and emotive, drawing on life experiences. She enjoys working with a wide variety of materials to express her thoughts and ideas.
Her recent work has explored the concept of the home, and whether it is a place or person, somewhere that can provide a feeling of comfort or safety, or a place where our voice is heard.
Deborah is studying for a Masters in Fine Art (MFA) at Oxford Brookes, having also completed a BA in Fine Art at the university.

Ash Goller has a passion for the environment, and uses found materials, paints, and regularly uses cardboard as a canvas. Ash initially began using this method as a way of saving funds whilst studying and reusing materials, but now collaborates with the Green Arts Oxfordshire Network to help other artists use more sustainable practices.
Ash is shortly going into their second year of the BA in Fine Art course at Oxford Brookes.

Thomas Nicolaou is an Oxford based visual artist, graphic designer and tutor. Thomas studied printing, publishing, and graphic design and worked for a number of years in publishing. In addition to being an Oxford Brookes alumnus, Thomas returned to the university as an Associate Lecturer in 2009 and taught design skills on the BA and MA Publishing programmes.
In 2016, he graduated from the MA Photographic Studies course at the University of Westminster. His first London solo exhibition was at the Hellenic Centre in London in 2017. In 2018, as part of the group exhibition ‘Artchaeology’ at Nicosia Municipial Arts Centre (NiMAC) in Cyprus, he exhibited the work “Another Other Within”, created from an anthropologist’s photographic collection belonging to the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford. His first short film ‘Drinking Ceausescu’s Wine’ was selected and shown as part of the BF Artist Film festival 2019 and the OPEN20 Moving Image showcase for Brighton Photofringe 2020.
