  • 2021 entry for all apprenticeship standards will go ahead unless government restrictions and social distancing requirements around Covid-19 make the delivery of the programme unfeasible.   • Overview

    The Senior Leader Apprenticeship is an intensive and demanding course designed for the rising stars in your organisation wanting to fit studying around their busy working lives. The Senior Leader Apprenticeship will broaden their knowledge and encourage it to be applied in a range of situations. Delivered by an experienced team of tutors, this apprenticeship will broaden, integrate and stimulate knowledge in a range of situations and prepare participants to meet the challenges of the increasingly dynamic international business environment. 

    Studying alongside mainstream MBA classes, Senior Leader Apprentices gain the benefit of learning with the Oxford Brookes Global MBA community. Apprentices will make a direct impact on your organisation's future by applying their learning in the workplace, including developing a board-level strategic business proposal as part of their studies. There is also a top-up route to achieve the full Oxford Brookes Global MBA, accredited by AMBA (at additional cost).

  • Teaching overview

    The duration of the course is agreed with the employer and apprentice during the sign-up. Typically learning is delivered over 24 months followed by the End  Point Assessment. Apprentices study the equivalent of one day a week 'off-the-job' training through a combination of online study, intensive blocks on-campus and attendance at one residential workshop. Progress in the workplace will be monitored through regular contact between the employer, apprentice and tutors.

    The programme structure can be downloaded from the useful links. Please note that whilst a minimum of one module (plus the residential workshop) must be studied face to face, it is possible to study the remainder of the programme online, subject to module availability.

    Apprentices complete:

    • Orientation and induction
    • A portfolio of evidence demonstrating key skills, knowledge and behaviours expected of a senior leader
    • An End Point Assessment including a board-level strategic business proposal to create efficiencies or generate revenue
    • 80 academic credits from modules that are part of the AMBA accredited MBA
    • Eligibility for CMI and ILM member registration as a Senior Leader
    • Top-up route to the Oxford Brookes Global MBA, accredited by AMBA (at an additional cost)
  • Entry requirements, application process and costs

    • The cost for the Apprenticeship for 2021/2022 entry: £14,000
    • A good undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification
    • Three years' relevant managerial or professional experience, or seven years if without a degree
    • English and Maths Level 2, equivalent to GCSE A*-C or 9-4  
    • Eligible to join an apprenticeship scheme 
    • Employers should contact the University Apprenticeship team. We will carry out an initial assessment to ensure the apprenticeship is suitable for the candidates and meets employer's requirements. A contract and commitment statement will need to be agreed prior to signing up an apprentice
  • Learning outcomes

    • Development of skills, knowledge and behaviours underpinning successful strategic leadership and management
    • Equip participants with a creative approach to applying holistic business knowledge required to manage organisations in a complex world
    • A positive investment in developing staff - fully funded by the Apprentice Levy (or funded to 95% for non-levy payers)
    • 80 postgraduate credits 
  • End Point Assessment

    The End Point Assessment must demonstrate that the apprentice has the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of a senior leader. The End Point Assessment is typically taken over 5 months and is externally assessed. It comprises of:

    • Strategic business proposal and presentation with questioning
    • Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
  • How does the Oxford Brookes Global MBA top up work?

    After the apprenticeship has been completed there is the option to continue learning and making an impact by topping up to the AMBA accredited Oxford Brookes Global MBA ranked 4th in the UK (QS Distance Online MBA Rankings 2020). For no more than 50% of the cost of the MBA, you would study the remaining 100 credits comprising two optional modules, residential workshop 2, Critical Approaches to Business, and the capstone final project or dissertation, typically completed over 18 months.
