Role

I am the Commercial Research Coordinator and Assistant at the Oxford Brookes Centre for Nutrition and Health (OxBCNH), which delivers research and consultancy projects for clients across the health and food industries. Our work supports a wide range of organisations, from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to multinational corporations, focused on areas such as weight management, glycaemic control, inflammation reduction, and more.

In my role, I coordinate and supervise the centre’s commercial research and consultancy activities, ensuring that all projects are conducted in accordance with ISO standards and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. I am responsible for the overall project management and day-to-day delivery of research contracts carried out by staff, research assistants, and students.

My research primarily involves human participant trials, including glycaemic index testing and wider metabolic health studies. I also provide training and support to staff and students in the use of laboratory equipment and technical procedures. I manage the Nutrition Research Laboratories, ensuring that all equipment is accurately maintained, calibrated, and compliant. Additionally, I oversee the regular updating and proper storage of all health and safety documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Alongside my research responsibilities, I collaborate with colleagues on both applied and commercial research studies and contribute to teaching across the Nutrition and Dietetics department. This includes demonstrating research techniques and teaching students how to operate specialised lab equipment.

Teaching and supervision

I support the teaching and training of BSc, MSc, and PhD Nutrition students in the use of specialised laboratory equipment within the Nutrition laboratories. This includes training on techniques used to measure a range of biomarkers, including, but not limited to, insulin response, vitamin D levels, inflammatory markers, lipid profiles, and glucose.
