Research
My research is focused on the (re-)production of national identity in everyday life by ordinary people. My research draws on banal and everyday nationalism and tries to reconcile the theoretical tensions between both. I completed my PhD in Politics at Royal Holloway (RHUL), University of London. My thesis, titled ‘Britpop’s Common People: national identity, popular music, and youth in the 1990s’ adopted a case study approach to Britpop’s representation of national identity and the British youth, and their attitude towards British identity in the 1990s.co-edited my first book “A Political Sociology of Cultural Encounters. Essays on Borders, Cosmopolitanism, and Globalisation.” with Prof Axford (Oxford Brookes University), Prof Halperin (Royal Holloway, University of London), and Dr. Brisbourne (Royal Holloway, University of London) which has been published by Routledge in September 2022. My current research looks at everyday nationalism in citizzenship tests in the UK and in Germany.
