Role
Darren Shurmer has been working in mental health services for the past ten years, eventually becoming a senior nurse within high secure services at West London NHS Trust. He has a keen interest in mental health research, particularly around the use of qualitative research methods to explore the experiences of people with mental health illnesses.

Research
Darren has interests in qualitative mental health research, particularly around the life experiences of patients in secure mental health services. He was recently awarded an Improvement Leader Fellowship by Imperial College London and the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and subsequently was awarded a NIHR Patient and Public Involvement grant, both focusing on the experiences of patients nursed under long term segregation in high secure mental health services
