Senior Lecturer & Researcher in Public Health

School of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health

Role

I am a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Oxford Brookes University, where I lead and coordinate four core Master of Public Health (MPH) modules: Communicable Diseases and Public Health, Health Promotion, Advanced Research Methods, and the MPH Dissertation. In this role, I manage the teaching and assessment of students annually across multiple cohorts in the UK and international sites. I supervise and co-supervise postgraduate dissertations, ensuring academic standards and providing structured support that enhances student completion and publication outcomes.

Alongside teaching, I oversee curriculum development, embedding systematic review and mixed-methods research training into the programme, and lead quality enhancement initiatives to maintain alignment with national and institutional standards. I manage teaching teams, coordinate guest lecturers from healthcare and public health organisations, and contribute to programme recruitment and marketing.

In addition to my module leadership, I am the Deputy Lead of the Get Published! project, where I manage the operational delivery of the University’s flagship student research conference. I also serve as Subject Expert and Liaison Manager for our BSc (Hons) Nursing Top-up Degree delivered in partnership with BCAS in Sri Lanka, providing academic oversight, quality assurance, and support for international colleagues.

My responsibilities extend to committee work as a Board Member of the Faculty Quality Sub-Group and the University’s Induction and Transition Group, where I contribute to policy, student experience initiatives, and the enhancement of teaching and learning practices across the institution.

Research

My research focuses on healthcare education, infection prevention and control, and quality assurance in higher education.

I am particularly interested in patient involvement in healthcare improvement, sustainable approaches to hand hygiene, and the role of student engagement in advancing teaching and learning.

I also conduct research on curriculum design, systematic review methodologies, and the impact of international education partnerships on student outcomes. In parallel, I have growing expertise in public health leadership and supply chain sustainability, linking these to global health challenges.

Research impact

My work has influenced both practice and policy in healthcare and higher education.

Research on patient involvement in hand hygiene has informed infection prevention strategies within clinical settings, contributing to improved compliance and awareness among healthcare professionals.

My contributions to education include developing structured dissertation supervision frameworks and co-founding the Get Published! project, which has enabled students annually to present and publish their research. Internationally, my quality assurance research has shaped transnational education practices in Hong Kong and Sri Lanka, ensuring alignment with UK and local standards and supporting equitable access to postgraduate education.
