Role

Netta retired from Head of Practice Education in November 2018, after working for Brookes for 25 years. 

Netta continues to work 1 day per week as Principal Lecturer: Practice Education to support partnership working and quality asssurance of practice education relating to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2018) Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment. 

Netta's clinical background was in Intensive care. Her first post in Oxford was as Lecturer Practitioner for Adult Intensive Care, a joint post between the John Radcliffe Hospital and Oxford Brookes University. In 1997 she took up a secondment to the Department of Health as Nursing Officer for Acute and Specialist Services, within the NHS Executive. Key areas of work included the development of the National Triage Scale for A&E, Developing Emergency Services in the Community, Guidelines for Admission and Discharge for Intensive and High Dependency Care, and Health Outcome Indicators for Diabetes Mellitus. Following completion of her secondment, Netta returned to Brookes and was appointed as Head of Department - Critical and Specialist Health Care. Netta has also worked as School Executive Projects Officer, and Collaborative Provision Lead.

Teaching and supervision

Practice education, learning professionalism for different professions and disciplines in health and life sciences. Netta has worked with the University of Dundee investigating the learning curve in relation to learning professionalism as students move from academic environments into clinical/professional practice. Her pedagogic and research interests also include student engagement, flexible approaches to mentoring, raising concerns about practice and interprofessional/collaborative practice, reasonable adjustments for health impairment, disability and learning difficulty, and Standards of Conduct: Fitness to Practise.
