Role

Nurgul Yardim Mericliler is a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Associate Lecturer at the School of the Built Environment, Faculty of Health, Science and Technology, Oxford Brookes University. Her interdisciplinary research explores the intersections of architectural space, community dynamics, urban design, and communications, with a particular focus on makerspaces—an area she examined in depth in her PhD thesis, An Interdisciplinary Perspective Towards Makerspaces: 5 Cases from London. As a researcher, Nurgul contributes to a variety of projects, developing theoretical frameworks and methodologies, documenting research processes, and collaborating on the delivery of key outcomes. She is also deeply engaged in stakeholder relations, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering partnerships that extend the reach and impact of her work within both academic and professional contexts. In addition to her academic role, Nurgul is the founder of Anylab, a London-based consultancy that offers creative direction and communication strategies to global organisations and practices within the built environment. She also hosts Anylabtalks, a podcast in which she has conducted over fifty in-person interviews with architects, designers, academics, and creatives from around the world, contributing to the ongoing dialogue within the architectural community. Before relocating to the UK, Nurgul spent nearly eight years in Istanbul, where she worked as an architectural designer and communications lead at leading international architecture firms. It was during this period that she developed her expertise in architectural design, the built environment, and design communications.
