Role

Dr. Roshani Palliyaguru is a Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University. She joined Oxford Brookes University in 2023, and before that, she worked in various academic positions in several renowned universities, namely, the University of Vocational Technology, Sri Lanka; Deakin University, Australia; Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK; the University of Salford, UK; and the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, since 2005.

Roshani completed her PhD in Construction Management from the University of Salford, UK, in 2010 and her BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, with a First Class in 2004.

Roshani delivers teaching and conducts research in the areas of cost management in construction, commercial management, risk management, construction procurement and contracts, sustainable development in the built environment, and disaster resilience building in the built environment.

Research

Roshani's research interests are in the following areas:

  1. Sustainable development in the built environment
  2. Disaster resilience building in the built environment
  3. Managing infrastructure interdependencies
  4. Circular economy
  5. Risk management
  6. Construction procurement and contracts

She has worked on several funded research projects, including:

  1. Chief Investigator of the Seed project titled "Development of a Framework for Risk Governance of Interdependencies of Critical Infrastructure in the Context of Infrastructure Planning and Delivery in Sri Lanka" funded by Huddersfield University, UK (2023-2023)
  2. Chief Investigator of the Seed project titled "Analysis of Resilience of Infrastructure Interdependencies in Sri Lanka, UoVT, Sri Lanka," funded by Huddersfield University, UK (2023-2023)
  3. Deakin University-funded Integrated Design Futures (IDF) research project entitled "Using the Integrated Sustainable Design and Construction (ISDC) framework to improve community development in rural contexts: The live "Building Ampara" project in Sri Lanka", as a co-investigator (2017-2018)
  4. European Commission-funded 3-year research networking project entitled "Academic Network for Disaster Resilience to Optimise Educational Development (ANDROID)", representing Heriot-Watt University as a partner institution (2011–2014)
  5. British Council-funded research project entitled "Community Engagement for Risk Erosion in Bangladesh to Enhance Life-Long Advantage", as the Lead Researcher (part-time) (2011) 
  6. "Open Resources for Built Environment Education (ORBEE)" research project at the Research Centre for Education in the Built Environment (RCEBE), University of Salford, UK, as the Project Researcher (part-time) (2011)

She has many research publications in the form of peer-reviewed journal articles, peer-reviewed book chapters, peer-reviewed conference articles, professional magazines, newsletters, and so on.
