Role

Sam is an artist and curator whose work engages with the subjects and materialities of nature, digital culture, and community, using a variety of processes from publishing to gardening, archival research to papermaking.

Sam is module leader for the Professional Experience modules for 1st and 2nd Year BA Fine Art and the MFA, for which he works closely with students to share and link them to a wide variety of contexts, experiences, and opportunities within the cultural industries. He also leads 2nd Year BA Critical Theory Module on Accessibility and Interdisciplinary Practice.

He has a particular interest in artist books and publishing, and works with the Chris Fowler Artist Book Collection at Oxford Brookes as part of his teaching and research, including being a co-supervisor of a PhD studentship exploring Digital Twinning and artist books.

Sam leads the art and nature project Fig Studio, co-directs the post-digital publisher Torque Editions, and is a co-editor of Matter: Journal of New Materialist Research.
