Anna Chang, BA Sustainable Urban Design and Planning, 2026, Vietnam/Taiwan, Student
“Studying across two countries (at Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan and Oxford Brookes, UK) inevitably brought moments of culture shock, but overall it has been a deeply rewarding and formative experience.”
“I came across this programme while exploring study abroad opportunities.”
It gradually became a turning point in my academic journey. During my two years at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) in Taiwan, I studied both Architecture and Urban Design, which allowed me to develop strong technical foundations while clarifying where my real interests lie. With the support of inspiring lecturers and supportive friends, I eventually chose to continue with Urban Design at Oxford Brookes. Studying across two countries inevitably brought moments of culture shock, but overall it has been a deeply rewarding and formative experience.
The enrolment procedures were strongly supported by lecturers at CYCU, who guided us through each step of the process. We had online meetings with Oxford Brookes before arriving in the UK, which outlined key information and expectations. This coordination between the two universities made the transition much smoother.
“Studying at Oxford Brookes has given me practical experience that feels directly connected to the real world.”
Many of our design projects are live briefs with real clients, which helps me understand professional expectations early on. I really value the support from academic advisers, who are consistently approachable and proactive in preparing students for the job market — from refining CVs and portfolios to offering practical career guidance. This has given me confidence and a strong foundation before entering the international job market.
“I find Oxford to be a peaceful and academically inspiring city.”
Being surrounded by such a strong learning culture constantly motivates me to push myself further. Outside of my studies, I joined the University’s dance society, which allows me to continue a personal interest. I am also involved in the Urban Design and Planning Society (Urbox), which helps me stay active, engaged, and creatively inspired beyond the studio environment.
“My goal is not only to complete my degree with strong academic performance, but also to position myself for an international career in urban design.”
I am currently refining my CV and portfolio to apply for summer internships, as I want to gain professional experience early on. I hope to keep learning, stay open to new opportunities, and make the most of every experience that comes my way.
