Also, having access to the Bodleian library in my final year was a great help when researching for my dissertation.
I first visited Oxford Brookes University on an Open Day and immediately knew that I wanted to live in Oxford and study at Brookes. The ability to combine French and Politics as an undergraduate really appealed to me.

I chose to do a dissertation that combined my two subjects, French and Politics. Irène Hill and Richard Huggins were both hugely inspiring as my dissertation supervisors. Their individual support and openness was invaluable and it helped me produce a cohesive joint honours dissertation, without this I would not have been able to achieve the grades that I did.
I was keen to get into employment straight away after graduating. The internships offered by Brookes seemed like a good first step and I successfully got an internship in the marketing department. The scheme is great as it provides you with the opportunity to increase your skill set. I now have a permanent job as a Marketing Intelligence Officer at Oxford Brookes and alongside this I am planning to start an MA in International Business, Culture and Languages from September.
Having a degree in a foreign language and politics provides you with invaluable communication skills, both oral and written. It also gave me varied analytical skills and the ability to balance my time and conflicting priorities, which are all essential for the workplace.
There is so much to do in Oxford, but everything is very accessible. There are some great independent cinemas in Oxford which often show French language films, and I found this to be a great way to improve my French while I was studying here. I’ve lived in Oxford for over 4 years now both as a student and in employment, and I still find new and exciting things to do!
