BA Law (Hons)
The course gives you a broader insight into criminology.
Because not only do we study the types of crimes that are committed, but also seek to understand the culture behind the crime. The course is very broad from an interdisciplinary perspective. I personally enjoy this as it allows me to explore different aspects of criminology, making it easier to figure out my interests in the field.
It's really nice to feel acknowledged in your degree and not feel in the background
I find the lecturers really helpful and always go an extra mile to help you. From providing 1-to1 office hours to speak through your concerns, to organising extra curricular events, like guest speakers, that you can get involved with.
It’s been easy to establish friendships on my course.
Throughout the course there is a strong focus on collaborative working. There are also opportunities outside of the classroom, like the Criminology Society. As the Criminology Society President, I organise events like pub quizzes or murder mysteries that are organised with the union. So that's been really nice to get to know people from other years or those I haven’t had the chance to spend time with in class.
Start your assignments in advance rather than leaving it last minute.
This has been a very important challenge for me to overcome. I think just being good at managing your work in the sense of it gets to week 12 and you have four or five assignments in the same week and then it can be overwhelming, especially having a part time job alongside university.
I now make a detailed spreadsheet of the module assignment deadlines. I have the module name and then the due date and then I have a status menu if it's completed, in progress or not started.I find it helpful going to my lecturers office hours and asking for help if I’m unsure what to do.
