“Being an international student who struggled to fit in and find my place; the support helped me adjust faster and motivated me to perform better, and I look back knowing that I made the right choice.”

“When I was searching for universities in the UK, my aim was to find a modern institution with a thriving business department and a supportive academic environment.”

I was undecided for a while, but attending an open day convinced me that Oxford Brookes was the right choice. I fell in love with the campus; as I walked through it, I could imagine myself being a student here. The friendly atmosphere of the business school welcomed me and drew me to solidify my decision.

At Oxford Brookes, I feel the warmth of the community through my peers, and tutors, who took the time to get to know me and make me feel welcome and accommodated throughout my learning.

“My biggest challenge is managing my time effectively, especially in university where the workload is a lot and the majority of it is through self-directed study.”

I found the various sessions during Induction Week indispensable in familiarising myself with the university; its processes and facilities. It was during this week that I met my peers and tutors for the semester, and got introduced to the content of my modules.

It was difficult at first to adjust to a more independent style of learning, unlike secondary school where you’re guided through each step of the learning process. Occasionally I still have trouble managing the content of my studies, however I know that in these situations I can always turn to the various support offered: my tutors’ office hours, Peer Advice on Learning sessions, the Library and the Centre for Academic Development at the University.

“My favourite aspect of living and studying in Oxford is how there is something for everyone.”

Oxford offers the perfect balance between city life and nature. I love being able to enjoy the shops, restaurants and cafés in the city centre, while still having easy access to beautiful parks and green spaces. It’s a very student-friendly city, and I’m proud to study here.

“My course has helped me develop strong critical thinking and communication skills through a range of practical activities and assessments.”

Oxford Brookes also provides valuable opportunities beyond the classroom. For example, business and finance students were invited to attend a free lecture and training session on the Bloomberg Terminal, which gave us insight into how it’s used in industry.

Studying at such a diverse university has allowed me to meet people from all over the world and build meaningful connections. As an international student, these experiences have helped me grow in confidence and prepare for career opportunities both in the UK and globally.
