“Studying at Oxford Brookes has strengthened not only my architectural design skills but also my ability to think critically and engage with theory. Working in an international studio environment has taught me how to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.”

“Studying between two universities and countries has been an enriching and eye-opening journey.”

The programme between Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) in Taiwan and Oxford Brookes in the UK was newly introduced when I was applying to university, which made the experience feel both exciting and pioneering. Although I began my studies in Taiwan, the programme adopted the same educational approach as the UK, allowing me to transition smoothly into studying abroad without spending a massive time on readjustment. The way tutors thoughtfully blended two distinct teaching approaches helped me realise my ability to adapt to different academic environments, and it strengthened my confidence in navigating diverse learning contexts.

“I received clear guidance before arriving.”

The helpful communication from staff at both CYCU and Oxford Brookes gave me confidence about moving abroad for my studies. After I arrived, the academic support organised by the University was especially helpful as a non-native English speaker, helping me adjust to the learning environment. In addition, the fortnightly optional catch-up sessions organised by the architecture tutor provided valuable reassurance and helped me to feel comfortable in a new environment.

“As an architecture student, I find Oxford incredibly inspiring.”

It’s historic and vibrant, yet has a slower pace than other larger cities, and is perfect for exploring on foot. Walking through the streets, visiting the museums, and spending time in green spaces are all wonderful ways to relax between studying. I have also participated in events organised by the Oxford Architecture Society (OXARCH), as well as additional lectures held after studio sessions, which have been great opportunities to broaden my learning beyond the classroom.

“I have developed as a designer and collaborator.”

Studying at Oxford Brookes has strengthened not only my architectural design skills but also my ability to think critically and engage with theory. Working in an international studio environment has taught me how to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. I have also become more confident in presenting my work and my perspective, which has been an indispensable part of my academic and personal development.

I am currently finalising my portfolio and exploring ways to apply the skills that I have developed through studying architecture beyond the traditional architectural industry. I’m keen to continue discovering opportunities where these skills can have a wider impact.
