MSc International Hospitality, Events and Tourism Management, 2026, USA, Student

“I felt like Oxford Brookes offered the most interesting modules, career support, and the placement year option was a plus. ”

“I discovered Oxford Brookes after watching a movie about a girl moving to Oxford,”

so I googled if there were any other universities in Oxford besides Oxford University. After researching many UK universities that offered Master’s programmes in Hospitality, Events, or Tourism. I visited the campus a few months before moving and met a woman in the business school who showed me around and she just made me feel super welcome and I felt this is where I belonged.

“Studying in the UK is quite a bit different from studying in the US.”

The focus is more on academic development than practicality. It has been a change for me but also has challenged my thinking and caused me to grow my academic abilities. I wanted to change the trajectory of my career path and open up new doors and opportunities. Taking my learning to the next level would give me the chance to do just that.

“There are lots of networking opportunities on my course.“

During the experiential learning week in the fall we attended the World Travel Market and Passion4Hospitality, which are two of the largest networking events in the UK for travel and hospitality. We also went on several field trips to tourist attractions, hotels, and event venues and met managers at each, where we were able to ask questions and connect with them via email or Linkedin afterwards. I was also able to get a one to one coffee chat with one of the marketing managers at Blenheim Palace after our field trip there; who ultimately gave me my connections with English Heritage as well. I cannot emphasise enough how great the networking opportunities were on this course.

“My plan is to stay in the UK after graduating.”

I am confident that my time at Oxford Brookes and my placement year will give me the skills and experience I need to ultimately obtain a skilled worker visa to be able to stay and contribute to the tourism industry in the UK.
