“Teaching has always been something I’ve wanted to do and I knew the School of Education department at Oxford Brooke’s offered an excellent service”

During my undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Geography and History I realised my ambition was to become a teacher, and undertaking a postgraduate degree in PGCE Primary (5–11) is enabling me to help realise my dream.

Teaching has always been something I’ve wanted to do and I knew the School of Education department at Oxford Brookes offered an excellent service. This enabled me to focus on the subject of my dissertation and on the different ways children learn as part of the course.

I decided to stay on at Oxford Brookes to study my postgraduate because the staff are really supportive and the facilities available are fantastic. It is because of the PGCE Primary (5–11) course that I have gained more confidence and developed my management skills to help in my future career as a teacher.

My advice for any current undergraduates thinking about their next steps after their degree is to speak to current postgraduates and course lecturers for advice. Also, ensure that you speak to student finance to learn more about funding opportunities.

When I finish my PGCE Primary 5–11 I am really looking forward to realising my dream and getting involved in classroom teaching.
