BSc (Hons) Economics, Finance and International Business, 2026, Germany, Student
“I did a research trip to Bali as part of my course. Very few people were selected for it. It was in collaboration with the biology department to get an economic perspective on their research, which was amazing.”
“I wanted to study the combination of economics, finance and international business.”
I researched universities in the UK that offer the course, and Oxford Brookes was one of the few that offered it, so I applied. The university is in Oxford, and it's such a nice city, so that's why I chose to study here. It's such a nice student city, it's so central and so easy to get to and from London.
“When I arrived, the induction week was really good.”
I made a lot of friends and I'm still friends with them now in my third year. It was a really good opportunity to meet people and find out about the course and the University. It was really well organised, so from the first week I knew all of the information I needed for all three years of my course, which made it really easy to plan ahead. I was in Parade Green accommodation for my first and second year, and I met one of my closest friends while living there.
“I've really enjoyed econometrics during my course.”
I started doing it in my second year and as soon as I started the module, I knew it's what I want to do in the future. Overall, the course gives you insight into economics, finance and business so you can see what you like best. At first, I wanted to do finance, but now I've really moved towards economics, which I didn't expect. Having so many different modules gives you a good background in lots of different areas.
“I did a research trip to Bali as part of my course.”
Very few people were selected for it. It was in collaboration with the biology department to get an economic perspective on their research, which was amazing. The experience was really cool, especially because we got to talk to the locals who run a farming village where there are no tourists, and you could really see how the people live.
“The University gives you many opportunities, such as volunteering and paid work.”
It's a really good opportunity, especially as an international student. It gives you the flexibility around your studies. I volunteer at digital skills workshops with the wider Oxford community, which is so fun. I've met senior citizens from the area who I help during the sessions. I also do Global Buddies, where I help international students integrate and settle in when they arrive. All of this has given me lots of transferrable skills for interviews and jobs in the future.
“I'm currently applying to different master's programmes in economics.”
Eventually, I want to go into sustainability analysis, mostly in the banking sector, focusing on the sustainability analysis of different assets. We covered environmental economics in my course, which was the exact topic, so it’s really relevant to my future ambitions.
