“The course’s accreditation made it particularly appealing, as it supports my pathway into medicine while keeping future options open.”

“I was looking for a course with a clear structure and opportunities to gain practical experience alongside my studies.”

I first discovered Oxford Brookes while researching accredited Biomedical Science courses. I’m interested in pursuing a career in medicine and accreditation was especially important to me. It reassured me that the course meets recognised standards while still allowing flexibility for my future career path. The clear organisation of the programme and the range of opportunities to develop practical skills alongside academic knowledge made it feel like the right place for me.

“Studying in the UK felt familiar, but the assessment schedule surprised me.”

Having attended a British high school abroad, the teaching and assessment style were not a major adjustment. However, I was surprised by how spaced out assessments can be compared to other systems. Rather than frequent exams, there is more emphasis on understanding concepts in depth and applying them effectively.

“I found the university very supportive in helping me settle into a new country.”

The International Student Advice Team (ISAT) was particularly helpful both before and after I arrived in the UK, answering my questions and offering guidance as needed. Student societies also helped me stay connected to aspects of home while adapting to a new environment.

Oxford is a very student orientated city, with regular events throughout the week and at weekends. I especially enjoy studying in the beautiful libraries around the city, which provides a focused and inspiring environment outside of lectures.

“Studying at Brookes has opened up opportunities to gain practical experience within the Biomedical Science industry.”

Through the course, I have explored work and internship opportunities with pharmaceutical companies and laboratory based roles across the UK. These experiences have helped me build my CV and gain professional insight. Being part of a diverse and international community has also shaped how I think about social responsibility in healthcare, strengthening my communication skills and awareness of inclusivity when working with people from different backgrounds.

Studying Biomedical Science at Oxford Brookes has given me strong scientific knowledge, practical experience and a global perspective. I feel well prepared to pursue a career in medicine while remaining open to international opportunities.
