MA International Relations, 2016
“I can say that the best things about the course are the lecturers, the seminars and of course the students you study with”
Martin Wikören Mogstad has lived in Norway all his life and decided to come to the UK to experience a new challenge. After his undergraduate degree he began studying for his MA in International Studies and will graduate in 2016.
I am Norwegian and have lived in Norway all my life. I wanted to experience something new and give myself a challenge, so I decided to study in the UK.
I was not sure about what to do, but have always been interested in politics and political issues and therefore decided to go with International Studies. I chose the course at Oxford Brookes as it focuses on a wide theoretical lens and engages with many interesting contemporary issues.
Now that I am here I can say that the best things about the course are the lecturers, the seminars and of course the students you study with! All of it really! Also the atmosphere in Oxford is truly amazing. The history of the city and the people you meet at university really make it – and the facilities in Oxford itself really help with your studies.
I had the chance to play for both Oxford Brookes football club and a football team in the intramural league whilst I studied here. I love playing football so this was something I simply had to take advantage of!
I would have to say thank you to Doerthe Rosenow (my MA dissertation supervisor), Tina Managhan, Chris Hesketh and Lucy Ford (my BA dissertation supervisor) who have assisted me most frequently during my four years at Brookes. They have helped me to figure out where I stand theoretically and have helped me develop academically as a student.
I really enjoyed my time at Brookes and would recommend the University to anyone. The School of Social Sciences have a lot of great, dedicated lecturers who will do their best and beyond to help you succeed! Next I hope to do a PhD related to my Masters dissertation on socio-ecological security.
