Applied Languages, 2019

“I visited other universities, but they weren’t as coordinated as Oxford Brookes. I’ve been able to tailor my course to exactly what I want to do in the future”

I’m really passionate about languages. I realised I could take Japanese, and combine two languages with International Relations at Oxford Brookes, which was great.

‘An intense and interesting course’

You can tailor my course to whatever you want to do, which is really interesting. I would say that Applied Languages is an intense and challenging course.

A lot of your time is taken up with learning the languages. And you get to focus on the cultural sides of these countries where the languages are spoken, which is really nice.

‘So many possibilities’

There are so many topics you can do on my course. I did French, Japanese and International Relations, but my dissertation was on marketing strategy. I’ve also done Business, and I loved doing a module on translation. There’s just so many possible combinations of subjects you can do.

Away from my studies, I’ve done quite a few things at Oxford Brookes. I was part of the Japanese society and dance society. Oxford is a student city, so it’s great for going out with friends.
