BSc Biomedical Science, 2026, UK, Student

“The skills I’ve developed during my degree helped me secure a role as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in my second year.”

“I’ve built positive and supportive relationships with my tutors and classmates.”

I regularly ask questions and seek feedback from tutors to strengthen my understanding of the course content. Working with classmates during group projects and laboratory sessions has helped me develop strong teamwork and communication skills.

Oxford itself has been a great place to study. I enjoy the city’s scenery and vibrant social life, and I’ve taken part in several student societies. Last year, I served as Vice President of the African Caribbean Society (ACS), which helped me connect with people from many different backgrounds.

“One of the highlights of my course has been the practical laboratory sessions.”

They allow me to apply the theory from lectures to real experiments and bring the science to life. I particularly enjoy modules in molecular biology and microbiology, which explore how biological processes connect to diagnosing and treating illnesses. These modules combine scientific theory with real-world healthcare and research applications.

“I’ve developed valuable skills in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication.”

Writing reports and presenting research have strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly, while laboratory work has sharpened my attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Balancing coursework, laboratory reports, and exams was challenging at first, but improving my time management made a big difference. By creating a clear study schedule, starting assignments earlier, and studying with classmates, I became more organised and confident in managing my workload.

“I hope to begin a career in biomedical science,”

working in a laboratory environment within medical diagnostics, research, or biotechnology. Ultimately, I want to contribute to improving patient care and advancing medical knowledge.
