MSc International Luxury Marketing
A friend of mine had studied at Oxford Brookes and highly recommended it.
So, this initially put the University on my radar. When I did my own research, I found that Oxford Brookes was one of the few universities in the UK offering a dedicated Luxury Marketing programme. The course is accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of Data & Marketing (IDM), adding immense credibility and industry relevance. And of course, the location, studying in Oxford, a city steeped in history felt like a dream. From the stunning architecture to the rich academic legacy, It’s not just a place to study, it’s a place to experience, learn, and grow.
On the course, the Introduction to Luxury module stood out to me.
Originally, I had a passion for luxury but not a deep understanding of how the industry operates. This module laid the foundation, helping me grasp the essence of what makes luxury brands truly unique. Another module I found fascinating was Heritage and Luxury, which explored the global significance of heritage in luxury branding. We analysed brands like Patek Philippe, delving into how their history and craftsmanship contribute to their prestige.
Guest lectures made the modules even more exciting.
Experts from brands like Porsche and Bicester Village shared their experiences and provided real-world insights into the workings of the luxury sector. Hearing directly from those at the forefront of the industry gave us a clearer perspective on how luxury businesses operate, the challenges they face, and the strategies that drive their success. It was a truly invaluable learning experience.
The tutors weren’t just lecturers, but mentors.
They genuinely cared about our learning experience. Whether it was offering one-on-one slots during office hours, discussing assignments after class, or even having casual conversations about career aspirations, they were always approachable. The level of support we received made a real difference—it wasn’t just about academia but also about guiding us toward our professional goals. My group consultancy advisor had a genuine interest in our growth and success, which felt exceptional.
My cohort was incredibly diverse.
They were from different backgrounds and cultures, which made for such a dynamic learning environment. Collaborating with people who brought unique perspectives to discussions and projects was exciting. We worked together on workshops, group projects, and various activities, which not only helped us academically but also strengthened our friendships.
Being chosen as the Course Representative for the MSc International Luxury Marketing programme was a personal highlight, allowing me to engage with peers, represent their feedback, and collaborate with faculty to enhance our course experience, deepening my appreciation for the academic and student community at Oxford Brookes.
I really valued the emphasis on practical learning.
Instead of a traditional dissertation, I had the opportunity to be part of a group consultancy project, where five students from the marketing master's programme were selected to work on a real-world brand. We pitched our ideas directly to the founder of the company, which was an invaluable experience, applying theoretical knowledge to actual business problems. We went on field trips to Blenheim Palace, Bicester Village, and Christ Church College in Oxford, gaining a deeper understanding of luxury in its various forms, from heritage sites to premium retail destinations.
A major highlight was leading the Social Media & Marketing department for the Oxford Brookes Racing Autonomous Team, where we worked tirelessly to meet our performance targets. Attending the Formula Student UK competition at Silverstone and spending days in the pit garages, immersed in motorsport history, was an unforgettable experience that still gives me goosebumps.
Currently, I’m completing my one-year placement with Belmond.
Belmond is a luxury travel and hospitality brand under Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH), the world's largest luxury conglomerate. This placement has been an eye-opener, giving me first-hand experience in the luxury industry before I even graduate. The exposure and network I’ve built through this opportunity have been instrumental in preparing me for the next steps in my career. So, if you make the most of what Oxford Brookes offers, the opportunities for hands-on learning are endless!
My ultimate goal is to work in the luxury industry.
My aim is to work with different verticals of it and work with major global brands. Being part of the LVMH family has been an incredible experience, and I’d love to continue growing within the group, discovering different brands and sectors under its umbrella.
At the same time, my heart has always been drawn to the Formula 1 industry. Luxury in motorsports is something that excites me, and who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll find myself diving into the world of F1, bringing my expertise in luxury marketing into that fast-paced universe. The future is open, and I’m excited to see where the journey takes me!
