Thomas Jacob was awarded a John Henry Brookes scholarship to study the LLM in International Trade and Commercial Law. Thomas hopes to work within an international organisation.

Having completed my studies in Brest and Toulouse, I decided to do the LLM in International Trade and Commercial Law at Oxford Brookes to improve my English skills, as well increase my knowledge of international law.

I chose Brookes because the LLM modules covered a wide range of areas of international law, from humanitarian to trade law, and because of Brookes’ reputation as one of the UK’s best modern universities.

I really enjoy the freedom to prepare seminars, and the opportunity to discuss the topic during the teaching sessions; all the teaching staff have been very helpful. Many of my fellow students are international, so I have also been able to discover new cultures.

I really enjoy the life in Oxford, which is very beautiful and lively. There are many pubs, clubs, and students from all over the world. We are also very close to London, which is a major world centre and where many of my close friends live.

As an international student it was very easy to find new friends, especially living in Cheney Village. France and the UK have similar cultures, so there is no risk of culture shock or home sickness!
