Lin attained a Bachelors of Law in China, and then passed the Chinese bar exam to become a certified lawyer. Following this, she worked at a prestigious law firm in China before deciding Oxford Brookes was a great next step towards her future career development.
Oxford Brookes is an inspiring place to learn. I’ve always wanted to study in a city such as Oxford, and the great selection of LLM options available at Oxford Brookes gave me the freedom and inspiration to achieve my dream.
I was lucky to have visited Oxford twice before, and fell in love with the city on my first visit. So when I decided to study my LLM in the UK, Oxford Brookes University was an easy choice for me. The course provided me with the knowledge I needed to further my career in international investment law, and the support I required to develop my legal English skills.
An LLM attained abroad will help me build on my experience in the International Law department of a prestigious firm in China, and will be a great asset in furthering my career as a lawyer.
I truly appreciate the connection between the course and Brookes’ International Centre in helping me develop my study skills. The International Center especially has been of great help to me, for such great language support, and for helping me connect with other like-minded students.
I have learnt and developed many new research skills, and of course increased my overall knowledge as a lawyer. I have also built upon my English language skills during my time in the UK, which is of great importance in our international world.
On my return to my home country, my new qualifications helped me to reach greater heights in my career as a lawyer in an international firm. I have now joined a corporate law team at a leading multinational law firm in Beijing. I am therefore enjoying a great new career opportunity, and am developing even further, thanks to my LLM.
I have enjoyed attending and being involved in the activities at the Student Union etc. where I have been lucky to make many friends and meet like-minded people.
I have to say thank you very much to Professor Ilona Cheyne for giving me this opportunity to share my experience. Oxford Brookes University has not just been of great support throughout my studies, but has also encouraged me to become a better lawyer in the future.
Oxford is an exciting, vibrant and comfortable city in which to live. It is also incredible to live in a city with such a fascinating history, and to study in an environment and surroundings with such academic prestige and importance.
Life in Oxford and at Brookes has been busy and exciting. The course was challenging, the people are friendly and supportive, and the city is beautiful. It was a fantastic experience at Brookes, and I would like to recommend the university, city, and challenge to all.
My advice for other students from China is that it is important to be prepared for the challenge ahead, and to ensure that your willingness to succeed in your studies matches the challenge ahead.
