Volunteering Opportunity: Help Older People with Basic IT Skills!
Wednesday 1 October 2025, 10:00am - 3:00pm, Oxford Town Hall
Many older people face barriers when it comes to using technology for everyday tasks such as using their mobile, emailing, paying bills, or staying in touch with loved ones online.
On 1st October, a special event will be held to celebrate the UN Older People's day at the Town Hall organised by the Oxford 50+ Network. The event will feature a range of stalls from voluntary and local organisations, offering information about services available to them.
As part of the event Oxford Brookes are excited to run a Digital drop in where people can pop in and get some help on basic internet or mobile skills — such as setting up Zoom, sending emails, or browsing the web or general help using their device.
We are looking for friendly volunteers to support the drop in. If you have a few hours to spare and are confident using the internet, we’d love to have your help!

We know that employers often look at your work experience for evidence of your skills and abilities, but how do you apply for jobs if you don’t have much or any experience? This workshop will help you identify ways you can develop skills throughout your university experience and in other areas of your life. Make A Smile Charity Pop Up (See how you can Volunteer!)
Thursday 2 October 2025, 11:30am - 2:00pm, JHBB Main Reception
Meet Make A Smile on campus and discover how you can get started volunteering with the charity.
Make a Smile is a charity that visits disabled, neurodivergent, and disadvantaged children as beloved fictional characters, such as princesses and superheroes, to bring some magic to their day. This charity is built on the principle that all children deserve a childhood. We believe that through no fault of their own, often children under-going hardship can miss vital play opportunities or lose out on opportunities to interact with their idols. Hence, Make a Smile is all about making a difference in your community and spreading as much wholesome joy and fun as possible. Learn more about us on our website.
