Employers want graduates with proven skills. Our degrees are designed with the real world in mind, giving your child the opportunity to build their employability. And there are plenty of other ways that they can develop valuable new skills and experience for the workplace.

Many of our degree courses including healthcare, business and the built environment, are recognised by professional awarding bodies.

Work placements

Our strong links with many different industries and professions mean that there are great opportunities for work placements. Some of our courses have a compulsory one-year work placement or series of placements, while on others it is optional.

Mentoring

On some courses, students are teamed up with a senior professional from industry.

Mentors provide personalised guidance tailored to your needs and goals, sharing industry insights and best practices to help you develop a deeper understanding of your chosen career path. Your mentor will offer practical advice on how to take the first steps in your career, as well as support to enhance your confidence and self-esteem.

Studying abroad

Oxford Brookes has links with around 150 partner universities all over the world including 21 European countries and further afield from Argentina to the United States.

Working part-time

By working part time, your child is increasing their experience of being in the workplace as well as boosting their funds. Oxford is a great city for part-time and seasonal work.

Expanding skills beyond studies

We encourage students to try new things beyond their course. As well as enriching their experiences, it can shape their thinking about a future career. Our app-based scheme BrookesEDGE is designed to mark achievements beyond their course and can be shared with future employers.

Careers service

The careers service offers tailored guidance to students, including one-to-one sessions, workshops, advice on CV-writing, interview practice and online resources. The service is free of charge for up to three years after graduation.
