Oxford Brookes International Women's Day 2025 - Accelerate Action

Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 with a panel of impressive women discussing the theme Accelerate Action and collective efforts for gender equality.

International Women’s Day 2025 celebrates the collective efforts for gender equality with the theme Accelerate Action. The panel of impressive women will come together to discuss their challenges and opportunities in a panel discussion, followed by an open forum for questions. This panel discussion is co-organised by the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Research Network and the Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice.

Speakers: 

Dr Victoria Showunmi (Associate Professor, University College London, Institute of Education - Education, Practice & Society).  

Victoria has developed a national and international reputation for her work on gender and race identity and leadership, and the implications for the experiences of learners and educators, including young Black women’s experiences of education in the context of their well-being.

Sarah Haywood (Managing Director, Advanced Oxford)

Sarah is the managing director for Advanced Oxford, a not-for-profit business membership organisation which brings together companies, institutions and organisations which all have a focus on innovation and knowledge-related business, and are based in Oxfordshire.

Laura Coryton MBE (Founder and Director, Sex Ed Matters)

Laura is a gender equalities campaigner, feminist activist, social enterprise founder, author and former Labour Party parliamentary candidate. Laura ended the Tampon tax, and  was awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to Charitable Campaigning.

MODERATOR: Dr Charoula Tzanakou (Director of Centre for Diversity Policy and Research Practice at Oxford Brookes University).

Charoula is Reader in HRM, where she also sits as Director of the Centre for Diversity Policy and Research Practice. Her research interests focus on equality, diversity and inclusion in higher education, gender in academic/research careers, graduate transitions from higher education to the labour market, highly skilled (Im)mobilities, EU comparative research, mixed methods.
