This interactive, engaging public lecture will take audiences through a potted history of film music, from the very earliest silent films to 21st-century blockbusters, stopping off at important points on the way. We will discover why films have music, how it has changed over time, and what happens when we change the music or remove it altogether. With facts, figures, anecdotes, humour, and a broad range of audiovisual examples, this talk takes the public into the magical world of film scores and offers the opportunity to ask questions afterwards in an informal Q+A.
