"Managing Corporate Virtue" - Professor Laure Bereni's book launch event
Professor Laure Bereni’s "Managing Corporate Virtue" explores workplace diversity politics in New York and Paris, analysing how organisations engage with virtue, responsibility, and capitalism.
Laure Bereni is a Research Professor of sociology at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a faculty member of Centre Maurice Halbwachs at École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Her work lies at the intersection of political sociology, the sociology of gender and race, and the sociology of work and organizations, with a comparative perspective between the United States and France. Her current research focuses on corporate virtue workers and programs - from diversity and inclusion to environmental sustainability - as part of a broader critical reflection on responsible capitalism.
Her recent publications include:
"Diversity Wins? A Progressive Critique of the Business Case for Virtue", Entreprises et histoire, 117(4), 2024
"“Why not a blonde woman?” Identity realism and diversity work in New York and in Paris", Ethnic and Racial Studies, 47(10), 2024.
Her new book "Managing Corporate Virtue" builds on this body of work to explore the politics of workplace diversity across New York and Paris, offering a sharp analysis of how organisations engage with questions of virtue, responsibility, and capitalism.
The session will be opened by Professor Nick Wilton before moving into Professor Laure Bereni’s presentation and a Q&A discussion chaired by Dr Audrey Harroche and Professor Charoula Tzanakou.
